Growing Up One Day at a Time

Dear Daughters,

Right now your world is simple. You wake up excited. You play hard. You laugh at things adults forgot how to laugh at. You get frustrated fast but you bounce back even faster. You are curious about everything. You ask questions nonstop. You two make the small moments feel big.

And even though you are only five and six, I already see pieces of who you will become.

I see the way you pay attention when someone else is sad.

I see how you run toward things that scare you a little but not enough to stop you.

I see how you help each other even when you are arguing one minute earlier.

I see how proud you get when you learn something new.

My job is to guide you, protect you, and teach you without dimming any of that spark.

Life will get bigger as you grow. School will get harder. Friends will come and go. You will try new things, fail at some, and surprise yourselves with others. None of that needs to worry you today.

Right now your only job is to learn, explore, and practice being kind and brave. That is enough. That is more than enough.

I want you to know that you never have to rush to grow up. You do not need to be perfect. You do not need to compare yourselves to anyone. You are allowed to make mistakes. You are allowed to be silly. You are allowed to take your time becoming the young women you will eventually be.

And no matter what season you are in, from kindergarten to college, you will always have a father who loves you, believes in you, and shows up for you.

One day you will look back and realize how much these little years shaped you. For now, enjoy them. They only happen once.

Love,

Dad
